54-year old asthmatic me climbed a VERY steep hill trying to beat a closing time (erroneously!) listed in a guide book and had to ask along the way to find an itty bitty 5th century monastery with an amazing apse mosaic (and not a lot else, thought what little space there was is almost FULL of furniture! So much for the Orthodox standing through the liturgy). Wow.

Christ’s body is shown limply attached to the #cross, his arms bent at the elbows and his legs turned, pushing his hip slightly outward. His head falls forward against his left shoulder. The #Virgin and Saint John the Baptist mourn his passing, and underneath the foot support, the three #soldiers divide Christ’s seamless garment.
